In the journey of faith, God often meets us where we are, with what we already possess. In Exodus 4:2, the Lord asks Moses a simple yet profound question: 'What is that in thine hand?' At first glance, the answer seems ordinary: 'A rod.' Yet this rod, a common shepherd’s staff, would become a powerful instrument in God’s hands. It symbolizes how God can transform the mundane into the miraculous when we surrender it to Him in faith and obedience. In this case God turns the rod into a snake to demonstrate His power. He didn't tell Moses in advance what He was going to do He starts by asking Moses what is in your hand. We like Moses, have doubts about our effectiveness, but often God has given us the tool we need.

This verse reminds us that God does not always call us to start from scratch. Often, He asks us to trust Him with what we already have and to step forward in faith, knowing He will guide and empower us to fulfill His purposes.

God Sees Potential in the Ordinary

The rod in Moses’ hand was an everyday object, yet God intended to use it to perform wonders. Likewise, God sees beyond our limitations and ordinary circumstances, revealing the potential He has placed in our lives. What seems insignificant to us can be mighty in His hands.

A Call to Reflection and Trust

Moses’ obedience started with acknowledging the rod he held. Sometimes, obedience begins not with grand plans but with small steps using what God has already given. When we respond in faith, God multiplies our efforts for His glory.
